Take action and help the people of Haiti
by cartmage on Thursday 21 January 2010 - 23:52:41
A message from the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation:
Like millions of people around the world, I've been shocked by the terrible events in Haiti.
Only now is the true scale of the disaster emerging. Reports now suggest as many as 75,000 people may have died, with hundreds of thousands made homeless.
The work ahead to recover from this tragedy is immense. So here's our goal: $1 billion for Haiti. That's how much Haiti owes to the International Monetary Fund, the Inter-American Development Bank, and a handful of others.
Sign the petition below to ask Haiti's creditors to act quickly and cancel Haiti's debts:
Our KCYDs have seen Allen Co start their YD group, great going guys! We are a go for a Health Care Event at the Warsaw Public Library, from 12-4pm on Nov 7th. We will be showing the movie "Sick Around the World" and then having an adult discussion (leave the yelling and the insults at the door. I'm working on it myself;) ) and from 2-4 Dr Tom Hayhurst has agreed to be our guest! To answer questions and just for general discussion, so please come on over and sit a spell:)
Hey everyone, wanted to let you know we will be hosting an Organizing for America health care meeting tonight at the Courthouse Coffee on Frontage Road. at 7:30pm. Please come and join the discussion. [Submitted by gwalms]

We would like to thank Terry Bartley, Cindy Dobbins and Shaunica Pridgen for helping us charter Kosciucko county. We would also like to thank Fred Saner and his wife as well as Terry and Sue Bartley for their financial support. Id like to thank Krisitn Boyd, Lee ann Brown and Grant Walmer for stepping up into leadership positions and sacrificing lots of free time to help keep us a float. We would like to thank everyone who helped make our Guitar Hero tournament a success. And we would like to thank the Kosciusko County Democratic Party for helping us attend the National Convention in Chicago last month, it provided us with direction, ideas, and invaluable information that has helped us focus and set achievable goals for the future.
Tonight it is our pleasure to announce that we now have completed all requirements to create an official Young Democrats of America club in Warsaw Community High School. We hope that it will be a successful tool for education on issues and recruitment into the KCYD.
We will also be working with members of the community over the course of the next year to create county wide Caucuses to organize people who haven’t normally been involved in our local politics. This includes a Latin American Caucus, a county wide chapter of the Gay/Strait Alliance and a Sons and Daughters of Organized Labor Caucus.
We have also been working closely with residents of our neighboring counties to charter them into the young democrats and we are happy to announce that on October 13th, the Allen County Young Democrats will be holding their first official meeting! Lagrange and Stueben counties are close behind and should be chartered soon.
Lastly we are also instating what we call our Young Democrats Legacy program, anyone over 36 is welcome to apply to become a legacy member of the KCYD. with a one time donation they will be a nonvoting member, yet otherwise fully invested in the activities and organizing of the KCYD, this will go along way to raise much needed funds and help keep the KCYD active at times when recruitment is difficult.
Thank you all again for your support. We look forward to working with all of you to obtain these goals in the future.

Hey everyone, the time for action on Health Reform has reached its peak. Now is the time we must charge through the cloud of misinformation and buffoonery and take action to pass comprehensive and progressive Helath Care reform. Many of you may have watched the president speak on Wednesday, if not, I suggest taking an hour to watch it here:
then take a minute to watch a short message from the president on how you can get involved.
Take these short bullet points and use them to keep your circle of freinds and family informed on the TRUTH about the reform, dont be shy to use the information publicly.
think of it as a tool of mass instruction!
The President's Plan for Health Reform
“It will provide more security and stability to those who have health insurance. It will provide insurance to those who don’t. And it will lower the cost of health care for our families, our businesses, and our government." – PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA
If You Have Health Insurance,
the President's Plan: Ends discrimination against people with pre-existing conditions. Limits premium discrimination based on gender and age. Prevents insurance companies from dropping coverage when people are sick and need it most. Caps out-of-pocket expenses so people don’t go broke when they get sick. Eliminates extra charges for preventive care like mammograms, flu shots and diabetes tests to improve health and save money. Protects Medicare for seniors. Eliminates the “donut-hole” gap in coverage for prescription drugs.
If You Don’t Have Insurance,
the President's Plan: Creates a new insurance marketplace — the Exchange — that allows people without insurance and small businesses to compare plans and buy insurance at competitive prices. Provides new tax credits to help people buy insurance. Provides small businesses tax credits and affordable options for covering employees. Offers a public health insurance option to provide the uninsured and those who can’t find affordable coverage with a real choice. Immediately offers new, low-cost coverage through a national “high risk” pool to protect people with preexisting conditions from financial ruin until the new Exchange is created.
For All Americans,
the President's Plan: Won’t add a dime to the deficit and is paid for upfront. Requires additional cuts if savings are not realized. Implements a number of delivery system reforms that begin to rein in health care costs and align incentives for hospitals, physicians, and others to improve quality. Creates an independent commission of doctors and medical experts to identify waste, fraud and abuse in the health care system. Orders immediate medical malpractice reform projects that could help doctors focus on putting their patients first, not on practicing defensive medicine. Requires large employers to cover their employees and individuals who can afford it to buy insurance so everyone shares in the responsibility of reform.

The Tea Party group in our community has started a website, and has posted information on H.R. 3200 (Health Care reform) straight out of a forwarded e-mail your crazy uncle might send you, all with no fact checking to it. So while I'm not posting a link to their site (I'm sure you could find it if you really wanted to see it) I will post a link on the lies they have put on their website as fact. So if YOUR crazy uncle sends you this e-mail you can rationally respond about how insane he really is:) http://www.factcheck.org/2009/08/twenty-six-lies-about-hr-3200/ [Submitted by tikaralee]
